What you need to know
The Certificate and Diploma in Coaching and Mentoring are ideal qualifications for managers with significant responsibility for coaching and mentoring as part of their day-to-day role. They are also designed to develop learners planning to move into a development role or start a career as a freelance coach and mentor.
There are three mandatory units in each qualification.
Unit 1 - Understanding the skills, principles and practice of effective management coaching and mentoring
This enables learners to understand the role and contribution of coaching and mentoring, and build a business case.
Unit 2 - Reviewing own ability as a management coach or mentor
This gives learners the ability to critically review their own personal qualities, skills and competence.
Unit 3 for the Certificate – Undertaking management coaching or mentoring in the workplace
This requires learners to demonstrate their ability to plan, deliver and review at least 12 hours of coaching and mentoring in the workplace.
Unit 3 for the Diploma – Undertaking an extended period of management coaching or mentoring in the workplace
This requires an extended 100 hours of coaching and mentoring, with multiple clients, with an added focus on using supervision and reflective review to develop individual practice.
The programme launches with a two-day foundation session (modules 1 and 2) which includes an overview (including assignment guidance), introduction to the ILM and available study resources, support for creation of individual development plans, and some initial co coaching activities. There will be two further one-day modules (3 & 4), spread over a six-month period.
Each participant will also be offered 4 one-to-one telephone or skype coaching/supervision sessions to support their individual development plans and coaching/mentoring practice along with feedback on any diagnostic instruments used.
Our price Includes: ILM registration and membership, assessment and internal verification, module delivery and all participant materials, plus venue and refreshment costs. This course is held at our training suite in Diss. Please note that the price does not include overnight accommodation costs; however, we do have preferential rates at a local hotel.

By the end of this programme you will be able to:

Identify tools and techniques to support coaching and mentoring interventions appropriate to your organisation
Create a development plan through self-assessment, diagnostic tools and benchmarking against recognised coaching and mentoring levels and competencies
Practice your coaching and mentoring skills and get feedback based on observation of coaching conversations
Grow in confidence as a professional coach/ mentor
Demonstrate coaching and mentoring competence through successfully completing the Level 5 qualification
Module 1: Introduction to Management of Coaching & Mentoring and Development Planning
Introduction to coaching - what is coaching and mentoring? Barriers to and benefits of coaching and mentoring. Organisational readiness for coaching and mentoring. Establishing a coaching and mentoring culture. Responsibility for coaching and mentoring. Also an introduction to ILM and the assessment process
Module 2: Management of Coaching & Mentoring and Using Coaching & Mentoring Skills as a Manager (part 1)
Change and coaching culture. Personal preferences and styles, raising your awareness for your coaching practice. Getting started as a coach - contracting, introduction to models, frameworks and practical coaching skills. Group feedback, coaching practice, reflection time.
Module 3: Using Coaching & Mentoring Skills as a Manager (part 2) and Introduction to Action Learning
In-depth development of coaching skills. Ethics, values and beliefs – awareness on your coaching practice. Introduction to Action Learning. Group feedback coaching practice, reflection time.
Module 4: Coaching & Mentoring Practice and Theory
Understanding representational systems, raising your awareness for your coaching practice. Working with opposites. Tools and techniques to support your coaching practice. Coaching support and interventions. Group feedback, coaching practice, reflection time.
