The Training Journal Awards 2018

By Shelley Measures, Dec 19 2018 12:08PM

On December the 4th, we celebrated the best of the best in Learning and Development at a glittering awards dinner held at the prestigious Tower of London Pavilion.

The TJ Awards are part of the Training Journal brand which for over 50 years has been supporting those in workplace learning and development.

The awards, now in their 13th year, recognise the originality, innovation, passion and hard work of learning and development professionals from around the world.

The evening was hosted by radio and TV celebrity Jenni Falconer and attended by over 500 guests from the L&D industry, coming together to celebrate their outstanding achievements in learning and development.

Margaret Burnside, Director of CAKE People Development, has been on the judging panel for the last six years, this year, judging the Best Coaching and Mentoring Programme, along with her chosen judging team.

The winners of the GOLD award went to Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust for their Coaching Peer Supervision Programme.

Margaret said “The drive and focus from Hannah Datema’s lead in providing the service for the Trust, and the partnership she developed is apparent. The feedback from stakeholders clearly illustrates the impact. The building of supervision and fitness to practice across the Trust along its focused and steady journey has resulted in the emergence of excellence in coaching. There is also a real commitment to developing standards further through the planned Phase 2 of the programme; a great example of commitment to continuous improvement. We, as judges, were very impressed by the development of a strong coaching culture in a large organisation and with a limited budget.”

CAKE was delighted to also sponsor, 'Best Leadership Development Programme' category this year. Margaret was thrilled to present the GOLD Award to Newton Europe.

Another organisation at the evert was GOLD Award winners of the Best Diversity and Inclusion Programme, BT plc, for their TechWomen programme.

CAKE has been supporting this amazing programme for the last four years. Candice Cross, Group Head of Diversity and Inclusive Culture said, “It would not have been possible without the support of CAKE”.

The TechWomen programme has supported over a thousand women and continues to go from strength to strength. The judges said, “This is a very impressive initiative which has been in place for several years and which has achieved tangible, measurable success; whilst it has gender as its focus, there is an intersectional approach; senior leaders have demonstrated their commitment; the reviewing process means that the programme leaders are improving it every year.”
